Main Article: Liberation of Korhall
Iowa participated in a deployment to re-colonize the planet Korhall. Upon exiting slip-space, the Iowa began broadcasting their IFF according to standard procedure. After an unknown amount of time, the ship proceeded towards Korhall, leading a small convoy of colony ships.
Before entering the atmosphere, the Iowa received an uncoded transmission from the surface, claiming the presence of a Covenant Fleet. The first colony ship had already began it's dissent when a squadron of undetected Seraphs attacked and destroyed the vessel. Taken by surprise, and now expecting an attack from the surface, UNSC Iowa focused power to the forward shields. After several minutes a Covenant carrier and several escort ships emerged from behind Korhall's moon, launching another surprise attack to the battleship's rear, disabling her Fusion Drives. Firing Emergency thrusters, the Iowa fired a MAC round and a salvo of Archer Missile pods in a lengthy engagement, taking critical damage after shield failure. Shortly after the colony ships retreated into slip-space, the Iowa managed to escape vowing to return in a transmission over the planet's E-Band.
The ship destroyed 2 Loyalist frigates and captured a cruiser. After the naval battle, the ship deployed ground forces onto the planet.
